Tectonic Tectonic was created as part of the Miniatures and Multiples exhibition (SGAR gallery) - works by 20 of Australia's leading and emerging designers. The piece is inspired by tectonic plate movement and the equalisation and distribution of geological mass above and below sea level. As a small-scale topographical study, the piece highlights the sedimentary layers that are exposed and thrust upward over the course of time through the cross-laminated end grain patterning. The internal void represents the meeting point of the plates which is in a constant state of flux.
The piece is one in a series of limited edition sculptures based upon the same construction method of using a repeated geometrical form to create complex organic structures, which will be released in mid-late 2011.
